The Yamasa Hamono kitchen knife brand originates from the Tosa region, which has a history of knife and blade making spanning over 400 years in Japan.

 

 

Tosa knives are admired for their sharpness, ease of sharpening, and durability. Tosa Sasukemono uses a free-forging method, allowing each craftsman to create unique handcrafted products tailored to their own preferences.


Yamasa Hamono inherits the traditional Tosa knife forging techniques. Mr. Tsutomu Kajiwara is a master blacksmith at Yamasa, now over 80 years old.

 

 

The roots of Yamasa knives lie in the culture of blacksmiths—those who once crafted tools to support local farmers, dating back to the era of Mr. Tsutomu Kajiwara’s grandfather.

Yamasa Hamono mainly produces traditional-style kitchen knives, entirely handmade and affordably priced. They are constantly working to improve their products while introducing Yamasa knives around the world, hoping to preserve the long-standing knife-making traditions of Tosa.
