The Yuri knife series was designed by the female team at Shizu Hamono, in collaboration with Aiko Yamamoto, a product designer from Seki City, Japan. The project began with the idea of creating knives that are comfortable and well-fitted in women's hands, while also being eco-friendly.

The team’s shared goal was to develop knives suitable for everyday cooking, with a design that is lightweight, yet still maintains the traditional aesthetics and technical quality of Japanese knives.

These knives are designed to be simple, user-friendly, and elegant, with a gentle style that suits women. The designs are inspired by traditional Japanese knives that have been used by Japanese women for centuries, such as:

  • Santoku – a versatile, easy-to-use all-purpose knife

  • Nakiri – a knife specialized for cutting vegetables

  • Petty – a small, multi-purpose knife perfect for fruits and delicate tasks

Simplicity, style, sharpness, and durability are the core elements of the Yuri series design.

One of the defining features of the Yuri series is its lightweight design. The blade is made as thin as possible to allow for smooth cutting with minimal effort, reducing resistance and giving you better control over every slice.

The Pakka wood handle, with its soft natural wood tones, adds a warm, gentle look. It’s easy to grip, and highly resistant to water and decay, making it ideal for daily kitchen use.

The blade itself is made from three-layer molybdenum-vanadium stainless steel on both sides, with a high-quality AUS8 steel core for long-lasting sharpness.

Another thoughtful innovation lies in the handle: with conventional knives, water tends to seep into the small gap between the blade and handle, eventually causing damage. The Yuri series features a special "locking pin" between the blade and handle that prevents water infiltration, significantly enhancing durability. This clever detail highlights the female designers’ attention to everyday usability and longevity.

Each knife comes beautifully packaged in a Paulownia wood box, making it a perfect gift for someone special.
