The Yamato series was born from the passion and dedication of the male craftsmen at the Shizu forge in Japan. Their goal was to create a special line of knives tailored specifically for men.

True to its name, “Yamato”, these knives are designed with strength and masculinity in mind. While they retain the classic appearance of traditional Japanese kitchen knives, they are built to be sturdy, user-friendly, and tough enough for seasoned chefs to use on a daily basis.

The Yamato series differs from the Yuri line (which was designed for women) in that both the blade and handle are carefully sized and weighted to match the strength and grip of the male hand. One of the most distinctive features of Yamato knives is their striking hammered pattern combined with a black-gray finish on the blade. This design not only evokes the image of ancient traditional blades, but also helps prevent food from sticking during use.

The handle is made of water-resistant, rot-proof Pakka wood. What makes it truly special is the deep bluish-black hue—a rare and distinctive color created by Shizu’s craftsmen after hundreds of trials using only natural materials. The result is a tone we call “deep indigo black,” a shade that is almost impossible to find in other products. To truly appreciate the beauty of the Yamato, you need to hold it in your hand. This is a genuine Japanese kitchen knife, through and through.

The Yamato knife comes in a beautiful Paulownia wood box, making it a perfect gift for special occasions or loved ones.
