The Nire Tree (楡), also known as Zelkova in Japan, is a deciduous species belonging to the elm family. Native to East Asia and Japan, it can grow into a large tree exceeding 25 meters in height. Zelkova wood is highly valued for construction materials—particularly cutting boards—due to its beautiful grain and appearance. However, the wood requires a long drying period after harvesting to prevent warping and settling deformation over time.

The core wood features a distinct yellow-brown hue, which stands out clearly from the pale color of other common woods. With its visible, glossy annual grain patterns, this material is especially well-suited for household cutting boards.

The Morinoki wooden cutting board is available in three sizes, from small to large, to meet various kitchen needs. Its beveled edges on all four sides make it easy to lift and handle during use.

Based on the desire to create the safest and most durable tools possible, the solid Nire wood is smoothly finished and coated with natural oil for added protection.

As it is made from natural wood, warping may occur over time. In such cases, simply wet the surface of the board with water, place a heavy object on top, and leave it overnight to help it return to its original shape.
