The name “玄 (Gen)” is often used to refer to the color black and also carries the meaning of “kuroto” – something profound, symbolizing deep craftsmanship and the unique skills typically associated with Japanese bladesmiths.

 

 

The meaning of the name “玄 Gen” also stems from the distinctive black color formed through the iron oxidation process, beautifully combined with Damascus steel patterns to express the depth and elegance of traditional Japanese aesthetics.
 

It features a traditional Japanese D-shaped (chestnut) handle that fits comfortably in the hand. The hammered finish on the blade surface also helps prevent ingredients from sticking during use.

 

 

In addition, the handle and blade are joined by a stainless steel bolster, which prevents water from seeping into the handle and causing damage. This construction also adds a sense of solidity and balance to the 玄 "Gen" knife.
